I am not into Halloween at all. It has never been a big deal in Australia, though increasingly it is used now as an excuse for a party – which is fine – and to show or watch scary movies – even finer. I know its heritage, and my Mum will say how they celebrated in Scotland, but in my world it has always been seen as very American and very commercial, which is a good reason not to do it 🙂 .

Having said that, I write horror-aligned or at least dark stories, so it behooves (now there is a word) me to try to join in the spirit of things and ENGAGE IN SHAMELESS SELF PROMOTION. (Oh if only there was a novel by me to push … 😦 )

I am told (by AI) that Illinois is the largest pumpkin producer in the US, however AI (which cannot be wrong) tells me that “Yes, pumpkins grow well in Oklahoma. The state’s long growing season (around 200 days) and warm climate provide a good environment for cucurbits” (there is another word). So I reckon Oklahomers know something about pumpkins and halloween. And also pagans, they should know something about Halloween. So Oklahoma Pagans should know a bit about Halloween.

So I will take the opportunity to recall that those who should know, THE OKLAHOMA PAGAN SOCIETY, awarded my story, Born Free, 1st prize in their Autumn – THAT IS, HALLOWEEN – edition of the OKLAHOMA PAGAN SOCIETY QUARTERLY*.
