Mid-life Crisis

If only the boy could talk. He had a tongue in his head:  Joe had checked. What horrors had silenced it?

Not that I am counting or anything, but my 20th published story, Mid-life Crisis, is now live and available for your free reading pleasure at Chrome Baby magazine.

When do we first learn to try to control everything?  When, he wondered, was it first instilled in him to plan for the absolute worst?  The back-up pack, the secret cache of food, one more escape route. At the first death?  When the first barricade was overrun?  The first rejection of a clumsy attempt at affection?  The time alone in the cinema, when those hands grabbed him?
